Statement hotel landscape in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The front entry at the University Hotel, now known as The Commons, was uneven asphalt, cracked concrete, crumbling bricks in the center island, and no outdoor dining space, hardly the entry that should greet clients coming through the front door.

Working with the University of Minnesota and architects, Southview Design headed up the renovation. One of the more dramatic changes was the addition of fire and water to the center island.

After demolition, concrete was poured – a monolithic pour for the new combined water/fire feature. The design also included an outdoor dining space which is shared by the hotel and Applebee’s restaurant.

Pavers define the dining space. It took four crews and two and a half months to complete the project.
