Failed Wall Repaired in Eagan, MN

A portion of a boulder wall surrounding a retention pond at this townhome community collapsed. Southview Design got an S-O-S from the property manager. Townhomes were sitting close to the collapse. Could we fix it? Although Southview hadn’t installed the wall, we were more than capable of repairing it.

The retention pond is approximately 9.5 feet deep and 100’ x 350’. The first task was to drain the water into adjacent retention ponds. Once that was accomplished, it took time to deconstruct the existing wall. Those boulders weigh an average of 800-1200 lbs. each. Working with the MN DNR, the city, and engineers, we designed a plan to rebuild it. We finished in late fall just as the snow started falling. In the spring, the retention pond started filling up, the lawns were repaired, and wildlife returned.
